Ambassador Ahmed Latheef of the Maldives Embassy in Germany made a courtesy call on the Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Germany Dr. M’Baimba Lamin Baryoh on 9th February 2021 at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Berlin, Germany.
In his welcoming statement, Dr. M’Baimba Lamin Baryoh expressed his appreciation of the cordial and friendly relationship that exists between them. He explained that the Republic of Maldives is a nation of islands in the North-Central Indian Ocean.
Ambassador Baryoh assured the Maldives Ambassador that Sierra Leone will continue to maintain its bilateral relationship with the Maldives. He added that both countries will continue to enjoy educational and cultural exchange programmes, which he said will create more opportunities for both countries to learn from each other. He informed the Maldives Ambassador about the strides made by His Excellency President Bio in the fight against Covid-19. He also informed his counterpart about the introduction of Free Quality Education by His Excellency President Bio that has been of great benefit to Sierra Leone. Ambassador Baryoh also mentioned the famous project under the office of the First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Fatima Bio. The ‘Hands Off Our Girls’ campaign is protecting women and girls from abuse and providing free sanitary pads to help them manage hygiene issues during their menstrual cycle.
Responding to his counterpart, Ambassador Ahmed Latheef expressed his thanks and appreciation to Ambassador Baryoh for his warm reception. He called for more cooperation between the two countries. He called on both countries to come together to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic. He concluded by saying he would convey Ambassador Baryoh’s diplomatic courtesies to his authorities in the Maldives. He is looking forward to further strengthening of diplomatic ties between Sierra Leone and the Maldives.
